The history of île Seguin
Île Seguin has a distinctive history, closely bound up with Renault’s industrial and social legacy. From 1929, it was home to one of the company’s most emblematic factories and, for more than 60 years, became a major centre of the French automotive industry as well as an important site in the history of labour. The factory closed in 1992, bringing this chapter to an end, but its legacy remains deeply embedded in the memory and identity of the island.

La Pointe des Arts - a cultural island in the city
The Pointe des Arts aims to fulfil île Seguin’s cultural vocation by bringing together the 7 major arts: architecture, represented by the work of Shigeru Ban (2014 Pritzker Prize) and RCR Arquitectes (2017 Pritzker Prize); sculpture and painting at Large and in the parc départemental Gauthier Mougin; music, poetry and the performing arts at La Seine Musicale; and cinema on the island.
After your visit, continue your walk along the banks of the Seine, through the freely accessible parc départemental Gauthier Mougin, or along the riverside paths surrounding the art centre.
Île Seguin also has several places to eat, terraces and spaces to relax. The cinema Pathé - île Seguin, with its 8 screens, is opposite the art centre. Large regularly partners with Pathé to present cinema-related events. A few minutes’ walk away, La Seine Musicale offers a year-round programme of concerts, performances and events. The neighbourhoods of Boulogne-Billancourt also offer a rich architectural heritage, a wide range of shops and extensive green spaces.
Île Seguin is the jewel in the crown of the Vallée de la culture.

A sculpture park to extend the art experience outdoors
Just a few steps from Large, the parc départemental Gauthier Mougin extends the experience of contemporary art into the heart of île Seguin.
Designed by landscape architect Michel Desvignes (Grand Prix de l’urbanisme 2011) as an evolving space, the park continues to develop through loans and new installations. In the park, as across île Seguin more broadly, Large and the Fonds de dotation Emerige have contributed to the selection and installation of the sculptures alongside SPL Val de Seine Aménagement — the local public development company of the City of Boulogne-Billancourt, responsible for creating the park and public spaces — and the Hauts-de-Seine Department, which manages the park. The sculptures punctuate the walk and accompany visitors as they make their way through the landscape.
Conceived as an open-air walk, the park invites visitors to discover sculptures along the way, in constant dialogue with nature, architecture and the surrounding landscape. In doing so, it helps establish île Seguin as a major cultural destination in Grand Paris, where art has a lasting presence in public space and in the visitor experience.
Around 30 artworks punctuate the route, including works by Tiphaine Calmettes, Peter Stämpfli, Stefan Rinck, Véronique Joumard, Parvine Curie, Marc Vellay, Erik Dietman, Gilles Barbier and Thomas Houseago.

Free to visit, the park offers another way of experiencing art: more spontaneous, more contemplative and at each visitor’s own pace. Here, the walk, the landscape and the passing of time all form part of the experience. The artworks reveal themselves differently as the seasons change.
Along the way, art moves beyond the exhibition spaces: it accompanies the walk, inhabits the landscape and becomes an integral part of life on île Seguin.
